HISTORY

This is the place. Big Basin Redwoods State Park Rancho del Oso.

This is the entrance to the Skyline to the Sea trail at Pacific Coast Highway.

Yes folks, you too can earn this badge. All you have to do is hike the Skyline to the Sea trail in it's entirety.

The Skyline to the Sea Trail is a 30+ mile hiking trail in the Santa Cruz Mountains. It descends from the ridge west of Saratoga at Castle Rock State Park on Highway #35 through both Castle Rock and Big Basin Redwoods State Parks to the Pacific Ocean at Rancho del Oso (Highway #1 and Waddell Beach).

In order to qualify for the patch, the trail must be hiked in its entirety. This can be accomplished by making day hike segments until completed, or hiked over a short period of days with backpacks using the trail camps.

The patch, represents the three ridges along the trial, the ocean, and wind-surfers at Waddell Beach.

Bridge on Skyline to Sea Trail
Big Basin Redwoods State Park offers some of the sweetest "mountain biking" around. At the entrance to BBRSP at Rancho del Oso (at Pacific Coast Highway) it's a gradual climb on an old fire road, known as the Skyline to the Sea trail. This can be a 20 mile round trip or a longer if you'd like. So, if you'd like to bring a mountain bike along you've got some great and comfortable riding right there.

In October we have a pretty good chance of having an "Indian Summer" day. There are stands of trees like this fading into groves of Redwoods.
